Established the Master Data Management Center in China.

Challenge

The challenge was to set up a Master Data Management (MDM) Center in China to manage master data across all the countries where the client operated. This involved establishing data processes and procedures, training the operational team on system functionalities and procedures, and ensuring that these procedures were accurate and adaptable to different countries and their specific needs. The setup covered all types of data, including Finance (FICO), Materials Management (MM), Sales and Distribution (SD), Production Planning (PP), and Quality Management (QM), along with various third-party systems.

Since all countries were not transitioning to SAP simultaneously, a phased rollout strategy was required to integrate each country into the SAP landscape as they joined. At the time, no SAP Master Data Management (MDM) tool was available, adding to the complexity of the project.

Solution

The challenge was successfully met by designing an enhanced request and approval process for master data management. The team was thoroughly trained and guided, leading to a highly successful implementation. The MDM team quickly became efficient in turnaround times, playing a vital role in data management. Over time, the team also became a valuable support resource for various other functions within the organization.
