Master Data Management Center set up in ChinaOverview
An automotive client operating in many countries needed one place to manage its master data. Tecxed established the Master Data Management (MDM) Center in China to do this.
The work included setting up data processes and procedures, training the operational team, and making sure the procedures stayed accurate while adapting to each country's needs.
The challenge
The MDM Center had to manage master data for all the countries where the client operated. The setup covered these data areas, along with various third-party systems:
- Finance (FICO)Financial master data.
- Materials Management (MM)Material and procurement data.
- Sales and Distribution (SD)Customer and sales data.
- Production Planning (PP)Production master data.
- Quality Management (QM)Quality and inspection data.
- Third-party systemsData shared with systems outside SAP.
Countries joined SAP at different times
Because countries did not move to SAP together, a phased rollout was needed to bring each one into the SAP landscape as it joined.
No SAP MDM tool available
At the time, SAP had no Master Data Management tool, which added to the complexity of the project.
The solution
We met the challenge in three steps.
We designed an improved process for requesting and approving master data changes.
The team was thoroughly trained and guided on system functions and procedures.
The MDM team quickly became efficient in turnaround times. Over time it also became a valuable support resource for other functions in the organization.
